Our in-house dog nutritionist says:
“Pumpkin seeds offer many nutritional benefits for dogs. They are packed with healthy fats, protein, dietary fibre and essential minerals that are hugely beneficial to the health of our companion animals.”
Key benefits for your dog
- Assist in the elimination of intestinal worms. Pumpkin seeds a widely used natural dog wormer. They contain an active amino acid called cucurbitin which paralyses intestinal parasites like tapeworms and roundworms. Once paralysed, the worms lose their grip on the intestinal walls and pass safely out of your dog’s digestive tract during normal bowel movements.
- Excellent source of magnesium, crucial for controlling blood pressure, regulating blood sugar levels and maintaining healthy bones.
- Pumpkin seeds are loaded with antioxidants, fibre and heart-healthy polyunsaturated and monounsaturated fats. These nutrients help lower cholesterol, while magnesium and nitric oxide work together to keep blood vessels flexible and lower blood pressure.
- Pumpkin seeds are one of the best plant-based sources of zinc. Zinc is vital for immune function, cellular growth, skin health and wound healing.
- Thanks to their high protein, low carbohydrate and high magnesium content, pumpkin seeds help improve glycaemic control and insulin regulation, making them a great snack option for dogs with diabetes.
- Pumpkin seeds are rich in vitamin E and carotenoids. These antioxidants reduce harmful inflammation and shield your dog’s cells against damage from free radicals, which lowers the risk of several chronic conditions.
