Venison is amongst the leanest sources of protein for homemade dog food. For this recipe I combined venison mince for dogs with organ meats from my local farm shop. Absolutely beautiful protein-rich ox heart, ox liver and ox tongue.

I used safflower oil in this recipe. It really is one of my favourite oils. It has a modest nutty flavour and it goes with more or less anything, from salads to curries.

Safflower oil is a vegetable oil extracted from the seeds of the safflower plant. It’s a thistle-like annual plant said to be one our oldest cultivated crops. Its seeds have been used for food and medicines for thousands of years, and it’s acknowledged to be beneficial to dogs. Safflower oil is an excellent source of omega-6 fatty acids together with vitamins E and K.

All in all, I was pleased with this venison mince for dogs recipe, and the icing on the cake was the fact that my dogs absolutely loved it!
