Lamb & Sweet Potato Hotpot
Lamb is an excellent source of easily digestible protein, essential amino acids and dietary fats. It’s particularly ideal for a dog with a sensitivity to chicken or beef.
- Minced Lamb, Lamb Heart, Lamb Liver
- Sweet Potatoes
- Green Beans
- Dog Chef Calcium
- Safflower Oil / Salmon Oil
- Dog Chef Daily superfood supplement
I made this recipe using carrots, cauliflower, kale and green beens from the garden to which I added some shop-bought sweet potatoes and blueberries.
Once cooked, I dressed those in salmon oil for omega-3 and 6 and safflower oil for vitamin E and yet more omega-6. I then added my own Dog Chef Daily and some essential Dog Chef Calcium for essential goodness. Despite the quality of the ingredients, it’s also important to supplement your dog’s diet where necessary.

Lamb makes a real change from chicken or beef. Rich in protein and omega-3 fatty acids, your dog will certainly benefit from the variety of nutrients lamb brings over other protein sources.
This homemade lamb dog food recipe can be as simple or as complicated as you choose to make it. In this case I admittedly chose to go for the complicated version. But if you want to make life easier for yourself, just use the recipe as a guide and use the ingredients you have to hand rather than going out shopping for them.
No sweet potatoes? They’re not as nutritious, but use white potatoes instead. No carrots? Use parsnips. No kale? Use cabbage or spinach. If you’re short of an ingredient in this homemade lamb dog food, simply substitute it for something similar. Simples!
