Detox Your Dog With Burdock Root

I wonder how many times you might have seen thistle-like burdock growing in the wild without knowing that you were looking at a plant, the root of which is considered one of the safest and most beneficial herbs known to man?

As a keen gardener I’ve many times cursed the invasive weed that burdock can be. And yet the root is so beneficial, perhaps it’s time we all gave burdock the respect it deserves!

Dog Chef Daily

Burdock is related to the aster, daisy and sunflower family of plants. Yes, gardeners like myself consider it a weed and a nuisance sometimes, but the plant has been used in traditional herbal medicine for thousands of years so it can’t be all bad.

For our dogs, Burdock Root is a good source of vitamins and minerals. It has much to offer our constant canine companions in terms of health benefits. Like chicory root, it’s a rich source of inulin, a soluble prebiotic fibre beneficial for good canine digestive health. It also has anti-inflammatory properties. This make it useful for the treatment of arthritis and other inflammatory diseases. And it’s beneficial in the treatment of canine atopic eczema and other canine skin disorders which have their root in poor liver function or a poor diet. It’s also been known to improve the immune system, reduce the risk of cancer and improve respiratory health.

Burdock Root’s main claim to fame though is that it has the ability to remove toxins from the body. So it’s a useful natural tonic for both the liver and the kidneys. Its blood-cleansing properties can help improve liver function. This makes it particular beneficial for senior dogs whose body’s might not be as efficient as they once were at removing toxins.

For all those reasons, Burdock Root is included in Dog Chef Daily, my plant-based daily superfood supplement for dogs.

Please remember though, Burdock Root should not be given to any dog suffering from diabetes of any pregnant dog!

If you make homemade food for your dog, you'll need to supplement to make that food complete. My natural supplements are made in-house with canine nutritionist approved 100% natural ingredients with no additives or preservatives of any kind.
