Spoiled for Choice

The birth of baking mixes for dog treats

While baking mixes for humans have been around since the 1930s, dog treat baking mixes for homemade dog treats are a relatively recent innovation.

Until recently, a search for ‘where can I buy a dog treat baking mix’ would have resulted in a poor selection of results. But now The Dog Chef has introduced its own range of Bake & Treat dog treat mixes. So you need to look no further for healthy and natural homemade dog treats for your best friend. It could even be argued you’re spoiled for choice in fact!

Truly natural dog treats

Search the aisles of your local pet food store and you’ll find row after row of dog treats. Many will claim to be natural although the majority will be very far from it. How can a dog treat that can sit on a shelf for eighteen months without spoiling possibly be natural? Such treats are invariably made in huge factories, frequently in far-off places, with ingredients left over from other manufacturing processes. Those that have not been created in a laboratory that is!

A truly natural dog treat is going to have a short shelf life because it won’t contain additives or unnatural preservatives. It’s also going to contain ingredients you recognise the names of. It won’t have any synthetic flavourings or colourings either. So it will taste the way real food should. And if it’s a treat made with a dog treat baking mix from The Dog Chef, it will be healthy enough for you to eat too, because all my mixes are made with 100% natural ingredients.

Dog treats don’t need to contain animal protein

One of the recent discoveries about dog treats is that they don’t need to be animal protein based. They can be. But they don’t have to be. And they can still be healthy even if they contain ingredients you might more traditionally associate with a health food store for humans.

Spirulina, kelp and brewers yeast for example. These and many other superfoods might more traditionally be associated with good human health, but we now know they are beneficial to the health of our companion animals as well. So you’ll find many of them included in my dog treat mixes.

Every one of my dog treat baking mixes has been approved by my resident canine nutritionist. Every one of them contains 100% natural ingredients. And each and every one of them is natural and healthy enough to be enjoyed by both you and your dog. That’s why I say that The Dog Chef makes dog treats so healthy, you can eat them too!

So now you know where you can buy a dog treat baking mix, I hope you’ll give them a try. And do please let me know how you get on!
