In the companion animal sciences there is a concept known as environmental or behavioural enrichment. Dog environmental enrichment. In essence, it’s about how you improve or enrich the life of your best friend in order to give he or she as happier a life as you possibly can. It comes in a number of forms. Nutritional, occupational, physical, sensory and social.
Make food fun
Essentially, nutritional enrichment is about making food fun. If you make homemade food for your dog, he or she will already have more fun with food than most dogs. When you make homemade dog food, most of those different forms of environmental enrichment come into play. The sights, sounds and smells of the cooking process cover the sensory aspect of dog environmental enrichment in a way that commercial dog food does not. And it’s the same when you make homemade dog treats with one of my Bake & Treat dog treat baking mixes.
You’ll find that your dog gets to understand when you’re baking dog treats. He or she will recognise the sights, the sounds, the smells of the baking process. This will provide sensory enrichment just as eating them will provide nutritional enrichment.
This sensory enrichment will build as you work through the process. Your dog will soon be able to work out how long each stage takes. He or she will get pleasure from the entire process, especially the final stage. The tasting session!
All this excitement, pleasure, sensory and behavioural enrichment only comes from making homemade dog treats. It doesn’t come from simply opening up a bag of commercial dog treats!
And then of course there’s what it’s really all about as far as your dog is concerned. The nutritional enrichment. Eating the treats!
There’s a simply enourmous difference between commercial dog treats and homemade dog treats:
- You know exactly what’s in homemade dog treats
- There are no synthetic ingredients
- They contain only 100% natural goodness
So do please consider enriching the life of your best friend. All my homemade dog treat mixes are 100% natural, all have been approved by my in-house dog nutritionist, and all come with dog satisfaction guaranteed.
Oh, and because they’re made with 100% human-grade ingredients, you too can eat, enjoy and benefit from your best friend’s homemade dog treats. If he or she will let you!
